Magento 1 Support Ending June 2020
Magento 1 Support and Version Updates Ending June 2020
It’s been public information for while now. Magento 1 will no longer be supported by Magento. Who were recently acquired by Adobe. Magento have recently outlined that Magento 1 support will cease in June 2020. It’s a little sad to think that Magento 1 will soon cease to exist. Here at Primal Space, we have thoroughly enjoyed working with the platform since 2015.
You can read the full announcement article from Magento on their website which details Magento 1 will be supported until June 2020 there.
Transition to Magento 2
What this means in reality, is no more updates or new versions of Magento1 will be released. No security patches will be created by Magento ongoing for the Magento 1 version. The recommendation is to upgrade to Magento Commerce 2 (Magento 2). We have already seen certain Magento plugin developers to cease updating Magento 1 versions. Focusing purely on the new Magento 2 version of their extension. The likelihood is that all Magento website designers and developers will stop updating their plugins around the same time in 2020.
Continued Magento Development at Primal Space
Thousands of websites globally are already using Magento 2. Including a number of Primal Space clients. Throughout 2017 and 2018 we have been helping clients make the transition from Magento 1 to Magento 2. Making the bumpy road, as smooth as possible! Contact us today to discuss your specific Magento requirements. Whether you are looking to migrate from Magento 1 to Magento 2. Or are looking for a brand new e-commerce website. We can help.
Magento 2 is really designed for large online retail clients. For websites that possess thousands of products. With large website traffic. If your site is to only have say up to 100 products, and no real custom e-commerce requirements.
Our recommendation is to look at WooCommerce for the WordPress platform. This is a drastically more cost effective solution.
